Christina Fangman was the 2013 recipient of the Friends of the Library's Curtis Gilmore Memorial Scholarship. In a ceremony, at the main Olathe library, Friends President, Colette McGee presented the $500 award to Fangman.
Fangman began volunteering at the library in 2011, volunteering for a total of 95 hours. In the fall, she will be attending The University of Kansas.
The Curtis Gilmore Scholarship is open to all graduating seniors who have completed 40 or more hours of volunteer time at the Olathe Public Library. Applicants also write an essay about how volunteering at the library has enhanced their education.
Curtis Gilmore was a youth OPL volunteer who passed away in February 2007. Gilmore was a senior at Olathe North High School, due to graduate that May. Gilmore volunteered at the library, 2003 through 2005, volunteering for a total of 116 hours. He is fondly remembered for his humor, friendliness and commitment to helping others.
