Blood Drive for the Red Cross
Your blood donation can make a significant impact in someone’s life. Blood is needed for many different reasons. Your donation could be used for the little girl with a rare blood disorder, a family member fighting cancer, a new mother suffering complications from child birth or a friend involved in a car accident. A supply shortage means that blood may not be available when it’s needed most. One donation can help save up to three lives because your blood is separated into its components – red cells, plasma and platelets – to treat patients with different needs.
Please prepare yourself for your blood donation. Eat a good dinner the night before, a good breakfast the day of, and drink plenty of water! To prevent a deferral due to a low iron count, add iron rich foods to your diet or take an iron supplement. Decrease your caffeine intake and increase your vitamin C.
Walk-ins are welcome or make an appointment at http://www.redcross.org/ and enter sponsorcode: OlathePublicLibrary
Please allow an hour for your blood donation and remember to bring your donor card or photo ID with you! For eligibility questions, please call 1- 866-236-3276.
