PAJAMA STORYTIME - For preschoolers & their families

Don your pajamas and come to the library for bedtime stories.  Stories will be geared toward ages 3 - 5, but all ages are welcome.  Program will last about 30 minutes.  No registration

Winter-Spring Storytimes

No registration is required for any of our storytimes, but space may be limited.  For some storytimes tickets will be handed out 15 minutes before the program begins.  See details in the listing below.  We encourage you to determine which storytime session is most appropriate for your child and family.  Click the links below for more information about the different sessions.

HOMESCHOOL ART SHOW

November 1 - 30 at Olathe Downtown

Stop by Olathe Downtown anytime during the month of November and check out the display of artwork by local homeschoolers at OPL's 2nd Annual Homeschool Art Show.  The art will be done by homeschoolers ages 6 - 18 (grades 1st - 12th).

FAMILY CHESS NIGHTS - For all ages

Join us for our monthly LEGO Club for homeschoolers! Each month we'll have a new theme, and you can have fun building with bricks provided by the library. Each session will last about an hour.

Come to the library to see an operating model railroad.  Experts will be on hand to answer questions about the display and model railroading.  Everyone is welcome!  No registration.  Come and go as you please.

HOMESCHOOL ART SHOW PICK-UP

December 6 - 14
at Olathe Downtown

Everyone who submitted artwork for the Homeschool Art Show can pick up their pieces to take home between December 6 - 14 at Olathe Downtown. All artwork must be retrieved by Sunday, December 14.  Things not picked up by that date may be discarded.

READ TO A DOG - For young readers of all ages

Saturday, December 6
1:30 - 2:30 p.m at Olathe Indian Creek

Children of all ages may drop by the library and read to a cuddly canine between 1:30 and 2:30 on the dates listed above. Come to the Children's Desk upon arrival and check in for a reading time. Reading sessions are limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis. No advanced registration necessary. For more information, call (913) 971-6874. Trained therapy dogs provided by Pets for Life, Inc.

"CRAFTING" OUR 6 BY 6 SKILLS - For ages 3 - 5 with adult

Love storytimes AND crafts? Let's put them together to practice "6 by 6" pre-reading skills! Preschoolers aged 3 to 5 are invited to grab a grown-up and come to the library to hear a few stories and then make a craft based on the stories we heard. Stories and crafts will be specially selected to let kids practice their 6 by 6 skills and to give adults tips for reinforcing these important skills at home. Children will need some help from their adult to complete the craft. Adults may bring more than one child but will need to assist each child they bring. Program will last about 35 - 45 minutes.

AFTERSCHOOL LEGO CLUB - For K - 5th graders

Are you a kid in kindergarten through 5th grade who loves building with LEGO bricks? Be a part of our monthly Afterschool LEGO Club! Enjoy a small snack as you hear about the month's special theme.  We'll then turn you loose on the library's LEGO collection to build something awesome and let you show off your creation before you leave.  Program will last about an hour.
PARENTS: To allow as many children as possible to experience LEGO Club, please sign your child up for ONLY one LEGO Club meeting per calendar month.

PIZZA & PAGES BOOK LOVERS CLUB - For 3rd - 5th graders

Do you LOVE books and reading? Are you in grades 3 - 5? Help us start a brand-new club for kids who love reading, sharing and learning more about books! Each month we'll eat a quick pizza dinner together and talk about books we've enjoyed recently. What else will we do? It's up to you! We could create tools to help other kids find great books, write to favorite authors, watch book trailers—the possibilities are endless.  Please bring a copy of a book you've enjoyed recently to the program (preferably a book the OPL owns, but it doesn't have to be) and be prepared to tell us a little bit about it—without giving away too much of the story! Program will last about 90 minutes.
