Summer Reading Program

Our 2017 Summer Reading Program theme will be Build a Better World.  We ill be offering a variety of fun and edulcational programs for kids going into 5th grade and younger related to building, designing, creating, and making the world a better place.  And of course, lots of great reading!  CLICK HERE to learn more about all the fun things we have planned for this summer.

Summer Storytimes

During the summer the Olathe Public Library offers outdoor storytimes at two Olathe parks.  See below for the times, dates, and locations.  We also offer Evening Storytime at the Downtown Library on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.  No registration required for storytimes.  Storytimes last about 30 minutes.  In case of rain, Storytime in the Park will be cancelled.

NOTE:  There will be no storytimes on Tuesday, July 4.

Come to Black Bob Bay for a free 30 minute preschool storytime.  Meet outside the pool entrance for a morning of stories, songs, and play from the Olathe Public Library and Olathe Parks & Rec.  No registration required for the storytime.  For a small fee you can stay for a special Me & Mini Me Swim.  In case of rain, storytime will be cancelled.

SUMMER READING LOGS - For 5th grade & younger

Beginning Monday, May 22 and throughout the summer
@ both Olathe libraries

Kids going into 5th grade and younger are encouraged to pick up a summer reading log at the Downtown Library or Indian Creek Library beginning Monday, May 22 or anytime thereafter.  Use the log to record all of your summer reading. Bring your reading log back between July 31 - August 18 and receive a free paperback book.  Reading logs will be distributed throughout the summer at both Olathe libraries and will also be available at our Summer Reading Kick-Off on May 30 at Frontier Park.

SUMMER BOOKMARK CONTEST - For 1st - 5th graders

Entry forms available beginning Monday, May 22
@ both Olathe libraries and online

Entry deadline is Monday, June 26

Winners announced by Monday, July 10

Bookmarks will be available beginning Monday, July 31
@ both Olathe libraries

Children entering 1st - 5th grade are invited to design a bookmark for the Olathe Public Library.  Entries will be judged by grade, and prizes will be awarded.  Winning entries will be printed and distributed at both Olathe libraries at the end of the summer.  Entry forms will be available beginning May 22 and may be picked up at either Olathe library or download here.

1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten! is a free program is designed to encourage you to read 1,000 books to your child before he or she enters kindergarten.  Click here to learn more and find out how you can get started.

FAMILY READ-ALOUD CLUB
