The 2007 William Allen White Award winners have been announced!
In the 3rd-5th grade level, the winner is The Report Card by Andrew Clements.Â In this book a young genius named Nora tries toÂ hide her intelligence so she won't be singled out.Â This is Mr. Clements' third W.A.W. Award.Â He won in 1999 for FrindleÂ and again in 2002 for The Landry News.
In the 6th-8th grade level, the winner isÂ So B. It by Sarah Weeks.Â This book tells the story ofÂ HeidiÂ whose mentally handicapped mother possesses a vocabulary of only 23 words.Â Â Most of her mother's life isÂ a mystery, including even her real name.Â With the help of a neighbor, Heidi attempts to track down the truth of her mother's past.
