When I was a kid we had an old blue chair that rocked and turned in circles that had been banished to the attic. It was perfect for reading because I could sit sideways on it, with my head resting on one arm of the chair and my legs draped over the other arm. We put it in front of one of the windows and that section of the attic became my reading nook. I put a box on its side and turned it into a bookshelf and spent hours up there reading Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, and anything else I could get my hands on.

It got pretty hot up there in the summer because the attic wasn't air conditioned, but that didn't keep me away. Occasionally a wasp would get in and chase me downstairs, but I always came back. Unfortunately, I lost my special reading place because we turned the attic into bedrooms for my brothers, but I will never forget the time I spent up there lost in one good book after another.

May is Get Caught Reading month. Where is your favorite place to read?
