Acclaimed children's author E. L. Konigsburg passed away on April 19, 2013.  Konigsburg was the author of such beloved books as From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler and The View from Saturday.  Ms. Konigsburg is one of only five authors to win the Newbery Medal twice, and she is the only author to ever win a Newbery Medal (for From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler) and a Newbery Honor (for Jennifer, Hecate, Macbeth, William McKinley, and Me, Elizabeth) both in the same year.  She seemed to be fond of long titles, huh?

She wrote twenty books, almost half of which she also illustrated.  Her smart and funny books often dealt with outsiders and young people searching for independence and adventure.  She once said: ''I think most of us are outsiders. And I think that's good because it makes you question things.''

For the curious among us, the E in her name stood for Elaine, and the L stood for Lobl which was her maiden name.  The author is survived by two sons, a daughter, and five grandchildren.  She will be missed in the world in the children's literature.
