School is ending, and a summer of fun is about to begin!  "Dig Into Reading" is the theme for this year's summer reading program at the Olathe Public Library.  Kids going into 5th grade and younger can pick up a summer reading folder at either Olathe library to keep track of all the reading they do this summer.  Return your folder between July 29 - August 11 to receive a free paperback book!  We started handing out reading folders today and will continue giving out folders throughout the summer.  Stop by the Children's Department anytime to get your folder and start reading!

Our Summer Reading Kick-Off will be happening on Tuesday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Frontier Park (located at Black Bob Road and Indian Creek Parkway).  Reading folders will also be distributed at our Kick-Off along with a variety of fun activities:  games, crafts, chess, temporary tattoos, balloon animals, and more.  Information will also be available about our summer reading programs for teens and adults.  This year at the Kick-Off we will be giving out yard signs and window clings promoting the Olathe Public LIbrary and F.R.E.D. (Families Read Every Day).  You can help us promote the library and family reading in our community.  In case of rain, the Kick-Off will be cancelled, but we are hoping for beautiful weather.

After you visit the Kick-Off, be sure to stop by the Summer Reading Kick-Off Book Sale sponsored by the Friends of the Library at the Indian Creek Branch between 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.  The sale will continue on Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

So there are a lot of fun things happening at the library on Tuesday, May 28, and that's just the beginning of our summer activities!  Pick up a green flyer at the library which tells about all the activities happening for children this summer at both Oalthe libraries.  You may also click here to get information about what's happening throughout the summer.  We hope to be seeing you often at the library this summer!  Don't forget to "Dig Into Reading"!
